The bio-enhancing concrete provider, ECOncrete, celebrated the first seawall panel produced in partnership with Marinetek at the newly revived Commerce Park in South St. Petersburg.
Founded in 2012, ECOncrete provides high-quality, cost effective concrete products including, bio-enhancing concrete additives, science based designed forms and form liners, applied to precast or cast-on-site. The environmental services firm's solutions reduce the ecological footprint of ports, marinas, coastal protections schemes and urban waterfront projects, while adding to their structural integrity.
“Why should we put more structures in the water – more man-made structures on the sea bed?” Shimrit Perkol-Finkel, Founder of ECOncrete asked, “When we can actually harness the ones we have.”
ECOncrete established an operation in St. Petersburg in late 2018 after joining the Florida Israel Business Accelerator program, a Tampa-based initiative that helps Israeli companies enter the U.S. market, and connecting with the St. Petersburg Area EDC, along with other economic development-focused organizations.
St. Petersburg proved to be an optimal location for ECOncrete, given the region's strong marine science assets, available talent pool, and widespread emphasis on the implementation of sustainable technology.
Among providing workforce and other significant connections, the St. Petersburg Area EDC connected ECOncrete with Farias Consulting Group who assisted them with arranging their location and partners for their manufacturing process.
