Ethical Biopharmaceutical Company Cybin Establishes Presence in St. Petersburg, Florida

Ethical biopharmaceutical company Cybin has established a presence in a work collaboration space in St. Petersburg. Cybin is a clinical-stage publicly traded biopharmaceutical company (NYSE American: CYBN) focused on progressing “Psychedelics to Therapeutics™.” The company is leveraging decades of human psychedelic research to create therapeutics that benefit patients, providers, and payers. Cybin’s three active drug programs target major depressive disorder, alcohol use disorder, anxiety disorders, and neuroinflammation. Cybin has a strong research and development pipeline of more than 50 novel psychedelic-based molecules. Since 2019, the company has raised more than $120 million CAD to date to advance Cybin’s M&A strategy and clinical trials. Members of the leadership team have successfully helped develop widely used drugs such as Allegra, Vaniqua, Zyprexa, and Cymbalta.

The St. Pete site will serve as a place to host meetings and serve as a think tank for advancements in psychedelic-based treatments.

Cybin’s Chief R&D Officer, Dr. Michael Palfreyman, noted that the primary factors driving the company’s choice of St. Petersburg were the Sunshine City’s appeal as a place to bring together Cybin’s global team and innovation partners, accessibility to and from Europe, and the region’s innovation ecosystem.

“Cybin brings together industry experts from the business and science community working together to potentially bring revolutionary treatments to the mental health care landscape,” said Dr. Palfreyman. “We looked for a place that our employees and partners would want to go to and could easily access a community with an innovation mindset. St. Petersburg ticked all the boxes as an attractive place to live, work, and visit, and that is easily accessible from all over the world.”

Cybin joins a growing cohort of emerging and established life sciences companies, research institutions, and medical centers in Pinellas County. Nearly half of all life science companies in the Tampa Bay region are located in Pinellas.
