Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SCPA) Tampa Bay is the only non-profit, animal welfare agency that runs an open-admission for-all animal shelter in Pinellas County. The SPCA Tampa Bay animal shelter cares for over 8,000 animals annually that have been surrendered by their owners, along with injured wildlife.

SPCA Tampa Bay cares for dogs, cats, pocket pets, exotic animals, and livestock like goats and pigs. Animals receive immunizations, medical care, enrichment, and loving care while they live at our shelter. Our adoptions team and volunteers work to match families with animals that are a good fit with the family’s home, lifestyle, and personalities. Every animal receives compassionate care, regardless of its breed or size.

Our Vision:
Create a community where every animal matters.

Our Mission:
Through passionate collaboration with our community, we transform the lives of animals.

Our Core Values:
Compassion, Community, Customer Experience and Teamwork

Martha Boden
President & CEO
SPCA Tampa Bay

Martha Boden joined SPCA Tampa Bay as CEO in 2011. Under her leadership, SPCA Tampa Bay has confirmed its commitment as a for-all shelter, making sure every animal and every person with an animal concern has a place to turn for help. More than 8,500 animals each year, from companion animals like cats, dogs, and rabbits, to wildlife like screech owls and possums, and even livestock like pigs and chickens, are received with professional, compassionate care. Boden has implemented program and facility enhancements to improve the agency’s service to the community. She has expanded SPCA Tampa Bay’s community programs to include pet food banks and vaccine clinics, pet adoption programs for veterans, and pet boarding for first responders and families in crisis.

Martha started her career in information technology building a suite of product development and project management skills in the healthcare and services sectors. Employers included Honeywell, American Express and the global consulting firm Accenture. She made the transition to nonprofits when she was hired as the CEO of the Humane Society of Indianapolis. In this role, Martha implemented programs that increased adoptions, improved the facilities and enhanced customer service.

Martha first gained experience in the animal welfare industry in her hometown of Minneapolis as a volunteer with the Animal Humane Society and as a volunteer and board president with the Animal Relief Fund. She also created The Hambulance, a hamster rescue where she cared for, rehabilitated and rehomed more than 600 hamsters.

Martha received her bachelor’s degree from Macalester College and completed an intensive executive education course at UVA Darden School of Business. She has attained a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. She earned the Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA) credential in 2016. Her work was recognized by the Tampa Bay Business Journal in 2018 when Boden was selected as one of its Business Women of the Year.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement as its Governance chair. She is the Foundation Vice-Chair for the St Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors. Martha also serves on the St Petersburg Women’s Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
