
St. Anthony’s Health Care Foundation better was incorporated in 1981 with the purpose of advancing the mission first established by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany – to provide excellence in medical care with an emphasis on compassion. Gifts in the form of grants, trusts, endowments and contributions from corporate partners and individuals enable the foundation to support the services and capital needs of the hospital.
Scott Smith, President, St. Anthony’s Hospital
Scott Smith is the president of St. Anthony’s Hospital, a 393-bed hospital located in St. Petersburg. St. Anthony’s is part of BayCare Health System, a community-based health care system in the Tampa Bay area.
Mr. Smith has more than 28 years experience in the health care arena leading successful physician-syndicated hospitals and other for profit and not-for-profit organizations. Prior to being appointed as president of St. Anthony’s, he was instrumental in constructing, opening and operating BayCare’s St. Joseph’s Hospital-South. Under his direction, St. Joseph’s Hospital-South established itself as a valued institution in the southern Hillsborough County community.
Mr. Smith received his master’s degree in health care administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as well as his BS from the School of Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill.
Mr. Smith is active in local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce as well as the American Heart Association and the United Way of Central Florida Board.
