In a recent ranking, St. Petersburg was named the best city in Florida for families with children, and number 17 in the U.S. overall. Storage Café did a study on which places are best for families based on public schools, safety, socio-economic factors, share of families with children, cultural and outdoor recreation opportunities and more.
The site noted that in the best cities, “Safe neighborhoods, access to quality education, and cultural and outdoor opportunities spring to mind, but affordability and a vibrant job market are also features that can support positive family growth.”

St. Pete’s public schools ranked fifth in the nation in the mid-sized cities they included. In 2022, Niche ranked Pinellas County Schools the #1 best school district in the Tampa Bay area, while St. Petersburg’s private schools ranked highly in Tampa Bay and the state.
The Sunshine City also ranked well for childcare costs (14th lowest in U.S. cities included) and parks and recreation (including playgrounds, skate parks, tennis courts, swimming pools, volleyball nets, and pickleball courts, not a surprise given St. Pete’s #1 parks system rating).
